Connecticut Farmhouse

Originally built in 1810 and nestled in the countryside of western Connecticut, this rambling farmhouse has been a family retreat for the owners for nearly five decades. After being told it was a tear-down by many other architects, the owners were introduced to PPA and started on a journey of restoration and re-invention. PPA designed spaces to give the home room to breathe and shine, while retaining the traditional style and details of the house, as well as the spirit of how it had been built with all of its twists and turns, and nooks and crannies.

The multi-year design and construction process included the full disassembly of the attached barn and rebuilding it as a primary suite. The family room, kitchen, pantry, and mudroom were updated for optimal entertaining and more fluid function. The result is a grand, historic family home, re-invigorated, where a growing extended family will make memories for decades to come.
